Eyes-on the with Acer CXI Chromebox

Prior to IFA 2014 actually kicking off, Acer announced the CXI, its latest Chrome OS device. In a break from the norm it's a Chromebox this time out instead of a laptop, and it's well priced and has a nifty little form factor that allows it to stand up vertically on a desk or be mounted to the rear of a monitor. While roaming the show floor we managed to grab a few minutes with the CXI. It reminds you a lot of the nettop PCs, such as Acer's own Revo line in its overall appearance. Where the likes of the HP and Asus Chromeboxes are compact little, well, boxes, that lie on down on a flat surface, the CXI stands tall. On the front you've got a couple of USB ports, an SD card reader and the power button, while round the back you've got audio output, video output – displayport and HDMI – a couple more USB ports, ethernet and the power connector. Moto 360 with steel band up for pre-order on Verizon, set to ship November 11

Verizon Wireless has put the metal-banded version of the Moto 360 smartwatch up for pre-order. Both the white (steel) and black versions will be available for $299.99, Verizon says that they will ship by November 11 of this year. The Moto 360, now on sale, was originally introduced with both leather and metal bands, with the leather-banded models shipping first. If you have a leather strap and want to change it for Motorola's metal band, you'll need to fork over another $79.99 on top of the $249.99 you've already paid for the Moto 360. You can elect to change out the included band with any 22mm strap, but Motorola says that old, third-party straps might not look as good due to the round shape of the watch. Microsoft launches XIM for Android as a new way to share photos

Microsoft has just announced Xim, a new app that will be available today for Windows Phone, Android and iOS. Xim allows you to share photos easily with a group of friends nearby. You can then all view and browse the same photo content at the same time. With Xim you share your photos, not your phone. Xim is Microsoft's new way to share photos. It works best when you want to show a group of friends a set of photos without handing over your phone. While they can download Xim onto their device, they can also use Xim without downloading the app by using a web browser. Today you'll be able to download Xim from the Windows Phone Store, Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Once installed, you can select photos from a variety of sources like your camera roll, Instagram, Facebook or OneDrive. THE world in 1950 looked very different from how it does now. Europe was home to 22% of the world's 2.5 billion people. Germany, Britain, Italy and France all counted among the 12 most populous countries. But strong economic growth in Asia coupled with high fertility rates in Africa have contributed to a big regional shift in the global population. The UN's latest World Population Prospects expects the world to grow from 7.2 billion people today to 9.6 billion in 2050. This is 300m more than it had previously estimated, and reflects increases to the fertility rates in sub-Saharan countries such as Nigeria and Ethiopia, and other populous countries. More than half of the extra 2.4 billion people in 2050 will be African. India will swell to 1.6 billion people; it is on track to overtake China in 2028.
