Alongside the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro, Lenovo today also announced the Yoga Tablet 2 in both 8- and 10-inch sizes. Despite losing the Pro from the name, the Tablet 2 actually shares a lot in common with its bigger brother. The overall design is identical, with the same kickstand here with the same, new, hang mode.
The internals are also pretty well matched to the Pro, with the same CPU and same amount of RAM, though onboard storage is less at 16GB on both the 8- and 10-inch versions. The displays aren't quite as high-resolution, but they are still pretty nice. Both have a 1920x1200 display, which on the 8-inch in particular looks pretty sharp.
The Tablet 2 also has a pair of front facing speakers, albeit without the subwoofer found on its bigger brother. There's also an 8MP rear camera, a 1.6MP front camera and a big ol' battery in the base of the tablet that claims up to 18 hours on a single charge.
That battery in the base of the tablet means that the Yoga Tablet 2 does suffer from exactly the same as its predecessors. It's bottom heavy – or top or side heavy depending exactly how you're holding it. The rest of the tablet is so slim with no heft to it, that it's still slightly uncomfortable holding it with the weight all loaded on one side.
With the hardware bump from the original Yoga tablet much welcomed, the Yoga Tablet 2 is a nice update. It's running Android 4.4 KitKat with Lenovo's own styling and custom apps atop it, and while it won't be to everyone's tastes it's noticeably improved on the visual front alone from past efforts.
Oh, and it also comes with Windows 8.1, should you be into that sort of thing. Same exact tablet, different color, different OS. We've got a quick video look at both varieties above and a gallery below.
