Amazon is reportedly working on a new app that will offer curated content from the Washington Post newspaper in a magazine-like format. The app will be pre-installed on the company's upcoming Fire HDX 8.9 tablet.
Businessweek.com reports, via unnamed sources, that the new app is being developed under the code name "Project Rainbow". If true, this would be the first real major link between Amazon and The Washington Post since Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos bought the newspaper in 2013 for $250 million.
This new report claims that the app's development is being led by Kerry Lauerman, the former editor-in-chief of Salon.com. It also says that the app will be free for owners of the Fire HDX 8.9 at first. It will later be offered with the company's other tablets along with Android and iOS devices for a monthly subscription fee.
The story says this effort is an experiment of sort to see how the Washington Post can expand its current audience. Do you think this will be a worthy addition for owners of the Fire HDX 8.9 tablet?
