Samsung announces ruggedized Galaxy Tab Active with dust and water resistance

IFA 2014 At the IFA in Berlin, Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab Active, a ruggedized 8-inch tablet that can withstand a 1.2-meter fall thanks to its protective coating. Certified IP67, the tablet is dust and water resistant and comes with a tougher version of the S Pen stylus, called the C Pen, that provides an alternate form of input for when you're wearing gloves.

Notable specs include an 8-inch 1280 x 800 display, 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 1.5 GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory, microSD card slot up to 64 GB, 3.1 MP camera at the back, 1.2 MP front shooter, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, NFC and Bluetooth 4.0. The tablet boasts 10 hours battery life from the 4,450 mAh removable battery and runs Android 4.4. KitKat out of the box. Samsung is bundling in an additional protective cover as well as the C Pen stylus with the tablet, along with its Knox security software.

The Galaxy Tab Active will be offered in Wi-Fi only and LTE variants, with no mention yet of pricing or availability.
